Pulp Fiction/ Reservoir Dogs

I will be reviewing Inglorious Basterds soon enough to round up my summer blockbusters review. For now though. I'm gonna take a look into Quentin Tarantinos past and and arguably his two best films.

Reservoir Dogs:
This was Tarantinos first major film. And lets just say he didn't fuck around. He went for the throughout in what was a relatively cheaply made film. Most of the movie takes place in a empty warehouse. Which does not seem like a great concept or setting. But let me just say it does not matter. It rules. This movie is one big mystery. The basic premise is a robbery goes wrong and a group of men are trying to figure out who was the rat. It makes for some compelling performances from Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth and Michael Madson. The movie does not surprisingly have quite the amount of gratuitous violence some of Tarantinos other known films. This doesn't matter though. The story itself is interesting enough where that doesn't matter. This film has just the right amount of violence and great story telling. Not to mention a number of one liners that are just solid gold.
I give it 9 out of 10

Pulp Fiction:
What can I say about this movie that hasn't already been said. This movie simply rapes your mind and kicks your ass until your so blown away that you need to watch it over again. The main reason for this is the absolute gold performances from Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta. The entertainment alone for these two are enough to make this a great movie. But what makes this consider one of the greatest movies of all time one could ask? Simple. It has some of the most shocking scenes in movie history. One of the greatest characters in movie history. As well as one of the best stories in movie history. What else could you want? Because I cannot think of anything. The movie moves at a great pace. And your never bored. The story revolves around one suitcase and a boxer played by Bruce Willis. Who as well plays a great role. All in all we see some maturity in this film. We see certain characters develop. But more importantly this movie is just flat out kick ass. If you have not seen this movie yet what are you waiting for? Find some way to see this immediately.
I give it 10 out of 10 (yeah that's right).

Summer Movie Review

By popular demand I have been asked to review some newer movies. Now being that I am at college I don't have the opportunities to see as many new movies. Over the summer though I saw a couple I guess you could call them blockbusters. I will review a few of them now in short order.

Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen
How could this movie go wrong? Its directed by Michael Bay and has some of hollywoods most popular rising stars. Not to mention a very successful predecessor. Well let me be the first to say this movie was stupid enough that a cave man could enjoy it. The constant sexual metaphors and ongoing dumb dogs humping bit is just plain dumb. Its almost like this movie did not want to be taken seriously. They then try and have the audience believe that the main character Sam's mother does not know what pot is. And she mistakenly purchases some thinking its some great herb. Its completely ridiculous. Not to mention the constant slow motion sequences don't seem to add anything to the action. In fact there only purpose seems to be to show Megan Fox's boobs. In short this movie may please the eye but theirs nothing or unique about it. To be honest my favorite thing about the movie was probably the Camaro. And that's sad.
Id give it 4 decepticons out of 10.

Star Trek
I am by no means a trekie. I have watched a few episodes on TV land. And I know a little bit about the basic premise of the show at most. This movie though was quite entertaining. The beginning part of the movie is a bit slow. There is a sequence where Kirk is driving his dads old Corvette that really adds nothing to the story but a chase sequence to get you going. It seemed apparent though that they were trying to give kirk a really bad ass image from the start. I think that they may have taken it a bit far. He pretty much harrases a women in a bar. Making you almost dislike him. But it sets up the ending really well for his rise to the command. The movie has a great story line. Not to overly complex by Star Trek standards. And overall its something definitely worth seeing especially if your a Star Trek fan.
I give it 8 USS enterprises out of 10

Terminator: Salvation
I am undeniably a very big fan of the Terminator series. They combine a mix of science fiction, action, drama and a love story elements into one great movie. This one was definitely far better than the last Terminator the Rise of the Machines. It has Christian Bale playing the role of John Connor and he does a very good job at it. It seems like you would not know though because he is barly in the moive. As it focuses a lot on other characters as well. Which seemed odd to me because this movie was suppose to show John Connor fulfilling this destiny we keep hearing about. It though has a great story that will keep you paying attention until the end. It has nothing on the original Cameron films though. So dont expect that. None the less I enjoyed it and I think the casual movie goer would agree.
I give it 7 Skynets out of 10.

Blade Runner

I am not sure what enticed me to watch this movie over the summer.
There were plenty of reasons to choose another movie.
I was looking at the IMDB top 250 to try and find a good movie. Though I will say
It is not the best list I have ever seen compiled. It can be a great reference,
Towards the bottom I stumbled across Blade Runner. Now I don't know what caught my
attention first. That it was starring Harrison Ford and based on a novel that sounded pretty cool.
Or that it is just one kick ass name for a movie. I mean think about it Blade Runner, its just
a name that wreaks awesome.
I went out and bought a copy. And to begin with let me say I was impressed.
The musical score was excellent. I felt like the entire time I was in the middle of a futuristic dystopia.
Harrison Ford is on top of his game. Hes tough but not to tough.
It is clear that he is not stronger than then replicants he is chasing. Nor is he smarter.
I don't want to give away to much of the plot.
But more or less he is a futuristic bounty hunter.
He develops a relationship though with a replicant (more or less an android) that saves his life.
It plays an interesting dynamic on his character.
The entire movie is very dark and gloomy. Casting a shadow to what our futures may be in a world that constantly relies on technology.
And the last few minutes are just awesome.
My overall opinion 8 out of 10
Check this one out if you get a chance.

To start things.

I'm not the type who is going to sit here and tell you everything about my life and what I do.
Even though I am sure that's kind of a cliche at this point as plenty of people start off a blog
saying something like that or at least something that resembles that.

Basically I'm in college now. Im a cinema and communications major.
Ive realized though that I have not seen enough movies in my life.
So I have made it my goal to watch as many movies as I can now.
Mainly because I want a better understanding of movies.
There different styles the mise en scene etc.
And pretty much I just like movies.

So I figured I would do a blog of me commenting on the movies that I now watch.
Not sure what entertainment people will get out of this.
But what the hell I I'm the type of person who likes my opinion to be known.
